Save the dates are one of the latest wedding trends and it appears that they're here to stay! A couple of common questions that we hear time and time again are about when to send the Save the Dates and the Invitations? I'm happy to answer those as part of today's Wedding Tip Wednesday.

What's the difference between Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations?

Save the Dates are used to announce your wedding date, and city and state where the wedding will be taking place. They also let guests know that they will be invited to the wedding and should be expecting a formal wedding invitation. They are becoming more popular with lots of couples choosing to use some of their engagement photos in them.

Wedding Invitations are the formal invite to the wedding and include wedding details such as the date and time, location and venue, directions, dress code, and an RSVP card.

Do I need Save the Dates?

Save the Dates are optional, but are highly recommended especially for distance weddings.

When should I send Save the Dates?

Save the dates are typically sent out 6-8 months before the wedding so that guests will know about the date far enough in advance.

When should I send the Wedding Invitations?

Wedding invilations should preferrably be sent at least 8 weeks in advance if the wedding is local, and 3 months in advance if it is a distance wedding so that guests can adjust their schedules and make travel arrangements.

Where should I get my Save the Dates printed?

We offer a few templates for our clients, as do many photographers, but we also highly recommend using MPix if you want to make your own. You can view their large selection of Save the Dates here: http://www.mpix.com/products/cards#cat=237

Is there anywhere local that I can get my Save the Dates or Wedding Invitations?

We highly recommend Occasionally Custom Correspondence here in Columbus! They not only do incredible work, but are a pleasure to work with! You can see their work here: http://www.occasionallycustom.com
